Harley Street Endometriosis Centre is a coordinated multidisciplinary network. We offer comprehensive and personalised approach to endometriosis from all aspects.
We are the clinic where gynaecology endometriosis surgeons, specialist endometriosis nurse, colorectal (bowel) surgeon, urologist, anaesthetists, chronic pain specialists, gastroenterologists, and consultant radiologist, specialising in endometriosis work together and always discuss the treatment of patients with severe endometriosis on multidisciplinary team meetings (MDM)
Apart from the core medical specialists our patients will have access to clinical psychologist, complimentary medicine specialist and psycho-sexual councillor. We work in close partnership with fertility team in Lister Hospital for those patients who have difficulty getting pregnant with endometriosis. We support our patients in all aspects of endometriosis care before, during and after surgery. Our aim is to improve reproductive health of our patients and enhance their quality of life.
Diagnosis and treatment
We aim to reach diagnosis of endometriosis without delay using clinical expertise of our consultants, latest imaging techniques (high resolution ultrasound and MRI) and state of the art endoscopy equipment. We will provide treatment, aiming to remove all visible endometriosis, and afterwards offer you options to manage endometriosis long term, taking into consideration your individual circumstances, fertility aspirations and predominant symptoms.
Precision in diagnosis
To find out whether you have endometriosis, we carry out a detailed clinical assessment of your symptoms, gynaecological examination by a consultant gynaecologist, high resolution ultrasound and MRI scans of your pelvis and possibly a laparoscopy, the gold standard diagnostic procedure which involves inserting a tiny 5 mm ultra-high definition endoscopic camera into your pelvis through a small cut in the umbilicus under general anaesthetic. Depending on the severity of endometriosis, further investigations may focus on your bladder, bowel and other organs which might be affected by disease. If fertility is required, full assessment of ovarian hormonal function, tubal patency and ovarian reserve is offered alongside with other investigations.
Personalised treatment options
The treatment will depend on several things including severity of symptoms, age and whether there is a desire for pregnancy. Hormone therapy, different options for pain management or surgery may be suggested. Decision is always made via discussion between the doctor and the patient and patient’s views and preferences are always considered to be of paramount importance in decision making process.
The multidisciplinary team approach to surgical treatment allows us to perform the most complex surgical operations for endometriosis, keeping the complications to the absolute minimum. The treatment for endometriosis does not stop after surgery and we offer continuous care and support to all our patients, depending on their symptoms and needs. This includes multidisciplinary team care including management of chronic pain, bowel symptoms and infertility.
